Carlton Bolling have made headlines once again, with talented Year 9 students winning an inter-school competition organised by Northern Gas Networks in collaboration with the University of Bradford, Bradford Council, and other key partners.
The competition challenged students across Bradford to design a sustainable living plan for a fictional net-zero island, home to 30,000 residents. Over seven weeks, the students developed innovative ideas addressing energy production, waste management, and transportation – all while ensuring zero carbon emissions.
The culmination of their hard work was a presentation to a panel of judges, where Carlton Bolling students wowed them with their in-depth research and creative solutions.
Rebecca Miller from Northern Gas Networks praised the students, saying:
“The research they have done and the presentations they have created are so impressive. I hope this inspires them to continue thinking about what they have learned and help the UK reach our net-zero targets.”
The winning team of students have been invited by Yorkshire Water to visit The Education Centre at Headingley Water Treatment Works in Leeds. During their visit, they will learn how water conservation supports net-zero goals and enjoy a guided tour of the facility.
