Carlton Bolling is celebrating its role in a major literacy milestone across Carlton Academy Trust, with new data showing the significant impact of the Trust’s continued focus on reading and literacy.
Since September 2024, 428 secondary-aged students across the Trust who previously had a reading age below 9 years and 6 months have been supported to become confident readers through targeted intervention. The Trust has also seen a close to 50% increase in the number of students reading at the level expected of a typical 16-year-old or above.
Alongside improvements in reading, Carlton Bolling continues to champion a love of language through its ambitious curriculum and enrichment opportunities. This was brought to life during the school’s recent Poetry Slam, where hundreds of students took to the stage to perform their own work, celebrating creativity, confidence and student voice.
The latest literacy data also shows that, for the first time, the average student across Carlton Academy Trust is now reading above their chronological age, marking an important milestone in the Trust’s long-term commitment to improving outcomes for young people.
